Listening Party : Blitzen Trapper : Furr

Blitzen Trapper packed the house this weekend at Monolith. The kids from Vampire Weekend even crammed in to see them perform. They performed in the Rock Room, which should have fit about 300 people, but I would guess there were quite a few more than that. They shared lots of songs from their upcoming album, Furr, which will be released on September 23rd via Sub Pop. The band's previous release, Wild Mountain Nation - their first release on Sub Pop, received some seriously glowing critical acclaim (8.5 on Pitchfork, "Breaking" band in Rolling Stone), so following it might have seemed like a daunting task, but if you listen, you'll see they keep the ball rolling in the right, and even more accessible, direction...

And seriously, is that 80's metal logo not the coolest thing you've seen in a while?! Wait to you see their gig posters for their upcoming tour - even better.

4 Talk back to yo' mama!:

I love this album. It takes Grateful Dead's American Beauty and combines it with what makes Blitzen Trapper a great band. This is easily going to be one of the best releases this year.

This album, along with Dear Science from TV on the Radio, are probably going to be the front runners for my album of the year. Blitzen Trapper just keep getting better and better.

This album is by far the best thing to have come out in several years. It is definitely the best album of the year. I can't get enough of them!
