Jim James shows me the YouTube light...
Evil Urges may be a weird and divisive album at times, with some odd experimentation and a 70s/80s sensitive side that might have been best saved for more private times, but I rarely can help myself from loving just about everything Jim James, lead singer of My Morning Jacket, does. Jim is a sensitive guy, and he's put that on display in this album. Maybe that's not what everyone wanted or needed. I'm not really sure. I think the Touch Me... songs on Urges are phenomenal and I am actually one of the people that flat-out loves Highly Suspicious - probably the song Pitchfork and I differ in opinion on the most.
If I was to be really honest with myself, I'd probably give Evil Urges a "6" to "6.5" rating (Out of "10" and "5" being the 2.5 stars mark out of a "5-star" rating), so if I was a person who hated the song, I can actually see where P'Fork is coming from with their 4.7 rating. I do so enjoy my Yatch Rock too though, so Thank You Too might be another point of contention between us.
Anyway, no matter how you feel about Evil Urges, James hit a real homerun with me, this week, when he played YouTube DJ for Velocity Weekly.
This is all kinds of amazing...
Make sure you check out all the other videos Jim picked out for your viewing pleasure.
