Everyone's favorite Brazilians, Cansei de Ser Sexy have remixed another track. This time it's for The Cribs. I think the video for this song was banned by MTV not too long ago too. The Cribs' MySpace. CSS' MySpace.

Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos tonight at The Vogue

Tonight at The Vogue, Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos will debut more than a few new live cuts from their upcoming record Animal!. The band has been recording at their Queensize studio, but are flat broke and looking for a record-finishing cash infusion! Help them out by going to the show tonight!

It looks like an early 2008 release date for Animal!, and no label has yet to be signed on to help that release, but we gotta think that will change sooner or later. Get out to the show tonight and if you missed the article in NUVO, you can read about my favorite broke and malnurished local group right here. Margot's MySpace.

The Blakes + LCD Soundsystem Contest Prize Winner

MOKB's friends up in Seatlle, KEXP, have been all over local band The Blakes for a while now, but we're just now listening...and loving! They made it into SXSW this year, but we must have missed them. Legend even goes that Iggy Pop was cruising around the KEXP studios when he heard them and said, "Who the fuck is this? This shit is good!". These guys bring a garage rock sound, but mix it up now and then too with some new wave, dance-rock and punk influence. The Blakes' MySpace. Also, check out the KEXP Blog.

Poor Richards Press & Glastonbury Online

Poor Richards Press lead singer Ricky Anderson

Poor Richards Press is an unknown from Orange County, California led by Ricky Anderson. Their sound was decribed once as The Shins singing Simon & Garfunkle. Naturally then, this unsigned band has a sound I'm loving. Lots of So-Cal Byrds lovin' too in their music. Hear more at PRP's MySpace.

Bear Hands (and Bees)

Bear Hands is a Brooklyn-based, guitar-driven, up-and-coming indie rock foursome who hasn't been around too long, but is making some great tunes. Bad Blood has a very Modest Mouse sound to it, so fans of that band will enjoy. Bear Hands' MySpace.

New Video : Entrance : Grim Reaper Blues

I've loved Guy Blakeslee and his band Entrance ever since Garrison clued me in on them - almost a year ago to the day. I even had one of the band members in-studio for MOKB SIRIUS Blog Radio with David Vandervelde. It was great to talk first-hand about their music. This has been one of my favorites by them and I've played it on the MOKB SIRIUS Blog Radio show a couple times. They have a new album coming out sometime this fall, but recently finished a tour opening for Lavender Diamond.

Seymore Saves The World : Live on MOKB SIRIUS Blog Radio, Left Of Center, Channel 26

Seymore Saves The World dropped by the MOKB SIRIUS Blog Radio/91.7 WEEM studios this week. I hadn't seen Shawn Neary since SXSW 2005 and it was great to meet his bandmates. We had a good time talking about the new project and the struggles of being broke and touring. The guys, despite all sharing the front seat of a big pickup truck all the time, were really upbeat and a lot of fun. They even performed a new song, not on the debut album for us...

Petticoat, Petticoat : Live On MOKB SIRIUS Blog Radio, Left Of Center, Channel 26

We were also lucky enough to be graced by the lovely Kristin Messina and some guy named Dickie Haydon, who claims to be her fiancee (ok fine, he actually is), in the MOKB SIRIUS Blog Radio/91.7 WEEM studios this week. They were joined by Jackson Silvanik, their bassist, and formed the mighty Petticoat, Petticoat. The band played some great songs for us and were full of energy and laughs. It was a lot of fun getting to know them. Unfortunately, their show at The Irving Theater was cancelled, without notice, that evening. Good news on The Irving Theater front though, there are some exciting changes blowing in the wind. More to come on that another time.

Last Night's Shows...

I've spent most of my weekend (well actually since Thursday), with the aid of Papa Dodge and my brother, painting the exterior of my house. I was given a reprieve, due to rain, yesterday though.

I was able to split my evening between two bands. First I stopped at The Vogue to see The Black Keys shred it up on their Camel cigarrettes-sponsored tour. This is like the fifth time I've had the pleasure of seeing them live, and it just gets better every time. Then I headed down to The Melody Inn to catch Seymore Saves The World. Ironically, The Black Keys have no "keys" in the band, but SSTW plays a shiteload of "keys". Both shows, "keys" or not, were great.

SSTW did a great MOKB/SIRIUS Satellite Radio session with me earlier in the day. Big thanks to them and the tracks will be posted up here soon. Seymore Saves The World's MySpace.

Seymore Saves The World - The Lake

Don't forget that The Black Keys have posted a FREE download of a 4 song live EP recorded from various show on their 2006 fall tour. Check it out at their MySpace.

The Black Keys - Just Got To Be

Notable Sports Obits:

Indiana University head football coach, Terry Hoeppner, had the program heading in a positive direction after years of being Big Ten basement dwellers.

Rod Beck, 38, long-time major league pitcher, gave hope to all couch potatoes and beer drinkers throughout his major league career.

Thoughts go out to their friends and family.

New Ben Harper : In The Colors

Ben Harper in concert at the Murat Theater, here in Indianapolis, was one of the best live shows I've ever attended. I haven't revisited him for quite a while, but will always hold a soft spot for him.

Here is a new track from his forthcoming album Lifeline. Ben Harper's MySpace.
