Pop Dee-Lite : The Mary Onettes

If I'm ever forced to leave the U.S. and move overseas, I might put Sweden at the top of my potential destination list. Not because of its scenic mountains and glaciers or because H&M is based there, but because of all of the great pop bands originating in Sweden. Bands like The Cardigans, The Perishers, Peter Bjorn and John, Jens Lekman, I'm From Barcelona, The Hives, The Concretes, Anna Ternheim, The Sounds... You get my drift. You can add another one to the list and another reason for me to relocate: The Mary Onettes. Their self-titled debut on Labrador hits American shelves on Dec. 11.
If you've worn out your Human League, Flock of Seagulls and A-ha cassette tapes, maybe it's time to look into The Mary Onettes. They're not ashamed of the fact that they're totally 80s. But they give 80s music a new, modern twist in just 10 taut tracks. Think of it as a newer, darker, better dressed version of the sounds you loved in the 80s. Fans of the Cure should add this to their must-have list. If you aren't convinced on the first listen, don't put it aside. It's the type of CD that slowly seeps in as you listen to it over time and warms your soul. Perfect for dark, cold winter nights.

Sweden may have it's forte's for music, but neighbour Finland is clearly the better choice, especially considering that it have more record labels / person than any other country in the world. Here's just one of them www.fonal.com.
