MOKB 2007 Holiday Interview Series : Jared Swilley of The Black Lips

Black Lips worked double-time this year. They put out Good Bad Not Evil and a live album entitled Los Valientes Del Mundo Nuevo. Opinions vary on which is better, but good for them, both are being talked about during this year-end Best Of season. Their Hurricane Katrina athem, Oh Katrina, gained them some national attention and they've proven that lo-fi, fuzzy, garage-punk rock will never go out of style.
MOKB : Any musical plans for the 2007 holiday season?
Jared Swilley : We put out a XMas split single with our friends the King Khan and BBQ Show. I'll probably listen to Charlie Brown and James Brown Christmas records.
MOKB : What has been your most and least favorite things about the last two years?
Jared Swilley : My most favorite has been touring, and my least favorite have been touring.
MOKB : Where is the best place you've toured over that time?
Jared Swilley : That's tough - either Sardinia, or Israel
MOKB : Where is the best and worst place to eat while touring?
Jared Swilley : The best is anywhere along the Mediterranian. The worst is Great Britain.
MOKB : What's the worst rock n roll injury you've sustained over that time?
Jared Swilley : Pulling my arm out of it's socket in Sweden last spring. It still hurts.
MOKB : Give my your top three hometown hotspots.
Jared Swilley : MJQ(nightclub), Harolds(bbq), Manuel's Tavern
MOKB : What's the best piece of free you received over the last two years?
Jared Swilley : All the jeans from Lee, and a watch from Vestal.
MOKB : What weather event most terrifies you?
Jared Swilley : I'm not afraid of anything.
MOKB : What do you want for (Christmas/Hanukkah/Insert Your Holiday) this year?
Jared Swilley : No hassles.
MOKB : What's your best holiday memory?
Jared Swilley : They were all pretty awesome until I grew up.
MOKB : Give me your best holiday get-away.
Jared Swilley : My mom's house.
MOKB : You're snowed-in, who do you want to be stuck with you?
Jared Swilley : My girlfriend.
MOKB : What's the best gift to buy for that special someone this holiday season?
Jared Swilley : I say ditch gifts, and put away your money for a vacation
MOKB : If you were to buy that special someone one CD this holiday season, what would it be and why?
Jared Swilley : Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music - because it is loud and unbearable to listen to.
Black Lips - Oh Katrina
Black Lips - Cold Hands
Black Lips - Not A Problem (Live From Tijuana)
