Tulsa: I Was Submerged EP

It's getting to be that time of year when it gets dark earlier and you would just as rather stay in your home, bundle up in some cover, and watch a movie, or in a music lover’s case, pop on the headphones. One of the bands, I recently came across, that is perfect for this time of year is Tulsa. Their EP, I Was Submerged, fits the sometimes bleak mood that one has this time of year - right down to the album cover.
I Was Submerged is Tulsa's first physical record release. They took their name from a book by photographer and director Larry Clark. The book depicted sex, violence, and drug addiction in Oklahoma during the 60s and 70s, which is a great description of the feelings of emptiness, disappointment, and heartbreak that their music evokes. Tulsa's sound will easily and instantly remind you of a less-heavier Band of Horses or My Morning Jacket. The album is surprisingly tight for a first release and makes me excited to see how they progress.
I Was Submerged is out now via Park The Van Records, home of Dr. Dog and The High Strung.
