MOKB Covers Project : Umbrella

Terius Nash aka "The-Dream" and Tricky Stewart co-wrote Umbrella and supposedly put it on hold for Britney Spears. Spears passed on the song, instead opting for Me Against The Music, and during a session with Rihanna, the Bahama Mama snatched it up and made it the mega-hit of the Summer. According to The-Dream, Umbrella was written in just twelve minutes.



Umbrella was the first single released from Rihanna’s third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad and features rapper/Def Jam CEO Jay-Z. Umbrella topped the Billboard Hot 100 & Pop 100 charts and was downloaded 277,000 times in the United States, the highest debut-week sum since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003. It also became the first song by a female artist to debut at number one on the official UK Singles Chart solely on download sales. The song was nominated for five MTV Video Music Awards and won two. In other news, The-Dream is about to take his career from behind-the-scenes to in front of the camera with the release his own CD, entitled Love Me All Summer, Hate Me All Winter, this December 11th. The-Dream has recently completed new songs for Usher, Mary J. Blige, Sting, Keyshia Cole, Britney Spears, Will.i.am and Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger (source). Tricky works for Redzone Entertainment and apparently has done/is doing work for a host of single name identified mainstream supes like Britney, Mariah, Eve and Janet.
