MOKB Covers Project : Always On My Mind

It's a sappy one, but a classic. Written by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson, and originally recorded and released by Brenda Lee in 1972, Always On My Mind has really been made famous by Willie Nelson, the Pet Shop Boys and Elvis Presley. Willie's version hit number one on the Billboard chart, Pet Shop Boys snuck it into the Top 10 for a short time and Elvis reached number 16 with it on the Hot Country Singles Chart in 1973. The year previous, Brenda Lee could only take it to number 45. Probably the best take on it that really took it out of it's element is the Pet Shop Boys' version.

Apart from a Grammy Award for Song of the Year, Always on My Mind earned numerous other awards, including the 1982 and 1983 Country Music Association's "Song of the Year" honors (to songwriters Christopher, James and Thompson); and the 1982 CMA Single of the Year (to Nelson). Always on My Mind was named Billboard's number one country song for 1982. (Always On My Mind Wiki)

We don't discriminate when it comes to the covers, so you'll have to excuse the American Idol inclusion.

The Pennsylvania band Weston had a version of it on their 1994 album "A Real-life Story of Teenage Rebellion". If I can dig it up I'll try and send it.

All fans of Willie Nelson and Pat Greene listen up!!! If you're gonna be in the Dallas area or just Texas in general,
these two country legends are gonna be playin' Saturday 10/27 at the Smirnoff Music Center. If anyone is plannin on going, this event should be
damn good =) It's gonna be hosted by Dallas' own Lonestar 92.5, who I'm workin with to promote their new website at http://www.lonestar925.com/ .
Big Willie always plays an amazing show, and usually for charity foundations and plenty of other great causes so there's no reason NOT to be there
to support!
Lonestar 92.5's playlist is all about the local country music scene, as well as alternative country, classic rock, outlaw country, and much much more with
little to no commercial interruption!
Also, check out LONESTAR 92.5's site for their full calendar of local and concert events, as well as their new contest to win FREE tickets, VIP passes
and a backstage tour for the Black Crowes show on OCT 26th, just before Willie's show.
Come check the site!!!! http://www.lonestar925.com/
