Marla Hansen

MOKB's friends at NUVO prompted us to check more deeply into Marla Hanson, viola(ist) and member of Sufjan Stevens' Magical Butterfly Brigade. Local label, Standard Recording Co. recently signed the Brooklyn-based Hansen and released her EP Wedding Day. Sufjan and Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) have contributed their musical talents to the recordings. Marla isn't just known for her time with Sufjan though. She's played with the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, The New Pornographers and The National. Her voice is honest and captivating. Fans of St. Vincent will enjoy her for sure.

Marla, Arrah & The Ferns and Denison Witmer will all be playing Indianapolis on Wednesday, September 26th. 8pm at The 1051 (behind the new Vibes Music location) at 1051 E. 54th Street. All-ages show. Only $8. Marla Hansen's MySpace.
