Many Years Ago, I Was Listening To...

I haven't done this little feature in a while and the years don't correspond, so we'll just say "Many". Today has been great for one reason...Paula Abdul's Greatest Hits: Straight Up came in the mail. I mean, she may be a drunk former shadow of her hot-ass Laker girl self these days, but come on, Cold Hearted Snake still gives me chills. OK, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you know Britney learned her moves right here...
Paula Abdul - Cold-Hearted Snake

In other great "I was listening to 20 or so years ago" news...MJ and I recently took a road-trip to Oxford, OH and rocked out to Poison's Open Up And Say...Ahhh! most of the way. Seriously, I don't know if you have this album, you should, but if you do, open the cd and check the four individual pictures of the band members. I mean, come on, those dudes were not half-bad looking chicks!

In The Blogs:
Bibabidi has a two-part interview with Chromatics and some tracks. I dig it.

5 Talk back to yo' mama!:
I still think an investigation/analysis of the whole 80's, hair-metal, blokes looking like birds playing music aimed at blokes thing would be worthwhile.
Maybe you could start us off?
Yeah, Steve, but what about factoring in that the biggest hits by those bands tended to be the dreaded "power ballads" aimed at getting more, err..."birds" to come to the shows with the blokes who were going to see the blokes who looked like birds.
"Now I've gone cross-eyed"
Anyhow, 80s music, be it Paula or Poison...still a guilty pleasure. And damn I'm gettin' old.
Poison....I remember convincing my aunt to buy that cassette for me. She opened it up and looked through it and said "what did I just buy you!" Classic.
Similar story, my mother was buying me Motley Crue's Shout at the Devil on cassette at Caldor's, a priest was standing behind her in line and started asking her why she was buying that, she responded it's for my 7 year old son. Motley Crue's Theatre of Pain photo rivals that Poison one.
you know how to present shitty music but i beg you don't turn a blog like Stereogum!
