Recapping SXSW 2007 In Photos

So, this was funny...Esquire Magazine voted HotFreaks! the "Clusterfuck Of The Day" on Saturday in their recap. We win!

Pics From Hot Freaks!

MOKB gettin' boobie love

Margot & The Nuclear So & Sos close the Hot Freaks! show at the Mohawk

I intro'd Margot, but no one heard me

The Polyphonic Spree was a true spectacle

More Polyphonic, Tim

Polyphonic Chaos

Crazy drumhead, Polyphonic-style

Gettin' crazy drums up in my spot

Gorilla Vs. Bear gettin' crunk with Polyphonic

Rosebuds were overwhelmingly fun

Not to mention sexy

They got eveyone onstage to dance...who's that red-headed blogger?!

The Broken West had an early slot, but brought their A-game

We downed breakfast burritos with the band and then they rocked out

Shout Out Out Out Out...I did

So did they

Crazy vocoder stizz

Finally got to see Bishop Allen live

Click Click Click

Justin's special lady closed their set

Catfish Haven brough an extra guitarist and backup singers and really put on a great set

Apostle of Hustle...I miss the flamenco dancing

Thunderbirds Are Now! Now, packed with more fun

Prototypes were great...interview to come later

St. Vincent's songs are so heartfelt

Small Sins were a suprise (to me) hit in an early slot

Everyone enjoyed Walter Meego...interview to come later

Mezanine Owls...a little dreary honestly

Dual vocals pepped it up

Owner of The Mohawk or Super Colonel's twin brother?

Other standouts that I couldn't get close enough to get good pictures of were Loney Dear and Page France.

Ghostland Observatory at ACL Theater hosted by KEXP, Seattle: I just gotta say, the people at KEXP were some of the best folks I met all weekend. They're huge supporters of great, independent music and just as big of fans of blogs. They have all sorts of amazing SXSW 2007 coverage at their website

They didn't know there was going to be a live audience actually

They rocked out in their civilian clothes anyway

Ghostland with ACL backdrop

Dirty Knees party...hosted by Monolith/Mania TV/Denver Post/MOKB and other great folks:

Lots of people wanted in...

...but it was packed tight

Earl Greyhound was awesome...

...and I'm pretty sure I love her

People at the window trying to see in

Rock n Roll, making a comeback

Earl Greyhound

You can check out the Monolith blog for more pics and info on the upcoming festival at Red Rocks Aphitheatre.

LiveDaily/Spaceland/Echo/Ticket Web in association with MOKB/Aquarium Drunkard/Chromewaves

Datarock - Beastie Boys lite appearance-wise, but more rocking than most expected

Datarock had all sorts of crazy choreography

Molotov Party:

Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band

I made YANP go to this, and he quickly became a fan of The Rev.

Gorilla Vs. Booze: Great artists, great atmosphere. People that were way cooler than me, but still very friendly. Free booze! Thanks Mel, GvB & Red Hunter.

Red Hunter has such a diverse array of songs, genres he explores and ways and means of presenting. He built a choir for this show.

The Dirty Projectors...better with the female co-singers

NASA party: This party was fun, too far away from the action. Bonde Do Role was nuttypants despite lots of technical problems. Diplo was standing next to me the whole time. Kid Sister and Flosstradamus were a fun set. We ran into Kid Sister and A-Trak the next day and they were really fun to talk to...very engaging and approachable. That's always nice. Simian Mobile Disco was kinda meh, but the raver-types still seemed to love them.

A-Trak on the ones and twos

Simian Mobile Disco

Meeting Fatlip was a highlight of the week for me

iHeartComix/Mad Decent party: This party had all the makings of a huge blowout - once you finally got in and got a drink in your hand. Both took waaaaaaay too long. Unfortunately, the promoters forgot to get a party permit and it was shut down after only one act. I'm not even sure who they were, but they brought some serious kick-off hotness. Anyone recognize? They were from L.A. Thanks to Central Village Jeff at Gothamist for clearing this one up.

6 Degrees Of Memphis party:

I stayed an extra day just to hang with Rachel and see Snowglobe

More Snowglobe
