MOKB Covers Project One-Off : Cocaine Blues

Three different intertwined songs, all are amazing...
"Cocaine Blues" is a song written by TJ Arnall, a reworking of the traditional song "Little Sadie". This song was originally recorded by Roy Hogsed around the time Johnny Cash was born as well as by Woody Guthrie, but Cash made the song famous. - Wiki
As stated above, this song actually originates from the song "Little Sadie"...
Doc Watson - Little Sadie
Jerry Garcia/David Grisman - Little Sadie
"This cover is credited to Roy Hogsed, which we think is a mistake. The confusion is probably due to the fact that Roy Hogsed had a little hit with a cover version of "Cocaine Blues". Finally, note that the song was renamed "Transfusion Blues" because cocaine was taboo. Interestingly, when Johnny Cash released this song under the original title "Cocaine Blues" in 1968 it was again credited to T.J. Arnall." - Secondhand Songs
Johnny Cash - Cocaine Blues (Live at Folsom Prison)
Joaquin Phoenix - Cocaine Blues (Walk The Line OST)
Hank Williams III - Cocaine Blues
BR549 - Cocaine Blues
Uncle Tupelo - Cocaine Blues
Hank Thompson - Cocaine Blues
George Thorogood & the Destroyers - Cocaine Blues
Entrance - Cocaine Blues
Different song...same title. This song, sometimes just called "Cocaine" to avoid the confusion, was originally written and recorded by Luke Jordan during the late 1920s.
Bob Dylan - Cocaine Blues
Townes Van Zandt - Cocaine Blues
Nick Drake - Cocaine Blues
The Rolling Stones - Cocaine Blues (Keith singing)

11 Talk back to yo' mama!:
wow, nice collection. john martyn has a nice rendition of the luke jordan version too.
nice - the best though is dave van ronk's version
as always, if you have another version, please send it in and I'll up it for everyone! thanks!
Cocaine seems to put the muse in many a musician. Jackson Browne does his version of Luke Jordan. There is Dave Van Ronk too. Eric Clapton did a totally different version. Then there are subtle references to the devil's dandruff in songs like Lonesome L.A. Cowboy by Old and in the Way. Also a determinedly less subtle reference in Casey Jones.
this makes me feel like...having more cocaine!
i have a version of cocain blues by entrance if you want it.
is the same version as the nick drake one
