All my hipsters are gonna have to take this post off, because this one's for me and the roots (Although there is news below you should read!). You can't talk about
Shooter Jennings without first mentioning that he is the son of the original outlaw and country great Waylon and female country singer, Jessi Colter. It's just the blessing and the curse I guess...I think I'd take it as a blessing. He was born into the music and spent his first few years of life in the tourbus crib, but Shooter - at least at first, tried hard not to ride the coattails of his father's fame. I mean, he's actually named after his father, but he's not pulling a "Jr." on you. He's proud of it though and well he should be. His sound is now firmly supplanted in it's outlaw country roots, but he's the kind of guy who still likes to rock. He's subbed for Axl Rose onstage – twice – with Guns N' Roses. He struggled early to find his sound (and may still be somewhat at times), and after a short L.A. rock career with his band Stargunn, he moved to New York to regroup. He later returned to Los Angeles with a stack of songs, assembled a band he dubbed the "357s", and recorded a new album.
In 2004, he signed to Universal South Records, and released his first record,
Put the 'O' Back in Country.

He just released his second full-length,
Electric Rodeo, this month and it'll make you stomp and holler, but it's got enough smokey late-nighters too to keep you paced. It starts off with a bang with it's title track, but slips quickly into a Bon Jovi-esque
Gone To Carolina which might as well be
Dead Or Alive and is really just plain dead. He bounces right back though with a Waylonesque sing-a-long in
Some Rowdy Women and keeps the pace from there. He actually envokes his father and his bloodline much more in this album than ever before. He brings a brand of country not often, if ever, found in the current mainstream of country and if all country music were like this, I'd be a much bigger fan. Highlights include the title track
Electric Rodeo,
The Song Is Still Slipping Away,
Hair Of The Dog,
Little White Lines and
Black Magick.
Aviators is humorous even if it is a little contrived.
Shooter Jennings - Electric RodeoShooter is in Louisville tonight, playing
Headliners, so get out of the house tonight and see a great show at a great venue. An added note, he also portrays his father in the Johnny Cash biopic,
Walk the Line. For fans of Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd and great blends of country and rock.

The big news today is
the shake-up in
