The Best Television Soundtracks Of 2006
So, I've decided to break this year's Best Of's into categories. We'll start small and work our way to the year-end Best of Indie Pop/Rock/Folk list. We'll give Rap/Hip-Hop it's own list this year as well as Dance/Electronica/DJ. We'll also touch on EPs, Live Albums and Best Ofs.
The best television compilation this year has to be The O.C. Mix Vol. 6. I mean, you know I heart covers, so I have a predisposition to this comp anyway. This is a great album though and it's not often you get a so many modern artists covering modern songs in one place at once. Buy it here.
For the counterpoint, Pitchfork absolutely hated this album. 1.8

Grey's Anatomy? Are you serious? It takes one band and practically plays their entire album throughout the season (i.e., Snow Patrol and Tegan & Sara). Personally, I think shows with original soundtracks (i.e., Lost) are better.

The Pitchfork review of the OC albums just rants on the show and how much it hates the 'ironic' following its gained in the indie world and how fake the Seth Cohen character is. Why is Pitchfork so lame, yet so fun and awesome? Its like the bully in high school that used to give you noogies and razz you for stuttering, but you still desperately wanted him to come to your birthday party.
i bought this yesterday because i had to have the rock kills kid cover. their album was kinda blah, but i like what they did here.
i read that p-fork review too and all i have to say is they need to lighten up. if they didn't take themselves so seriously, maybe they could actually enjoy music again.

Oh I like t&s but it should mix it up a little.
I don't think I've seen such a short list that causes such disparity when I look at it. The tracks of Rescue Me, Weeds, and Scrubs next to... those... others. I guess your taste is all encompassing, and that's cool.
Cool list -- the rise of TV soundtracks has been an interesting phenomenon to watch. The compilation of the One Tree Hill soundtrack was actually a plot line of the show; except on the show the album was a breast cancer awareness benefit, whereas I believe the real soundtrack is all for profit. (There actually seems to be confusion about this among Amazon reviewers.)
PS I only saw One Tree Hill because a bolder fell on me, rendering me unable to turn the channel from the WB. Oh, and my eyelids were taped open by some neighborhood punks. I think that about covers it.
