The Slip

Jim James loves The Slip

The Slip will be opening for MOKB favorite band, My Morning Jacket, on their upcoming tour. I didn't know much about them other than Jim James think they're great, but that holds a lot of weight with me, of course, because I think Jim James is great. Their new album is called Eisenhower and is out on Bar/None Records. The Slip's MySpace.

My first child, as a lot of you loyal readers know, is due this December, so this first song was of particular interest to me from the title alone...

The Slip - Children Of December
The Slip - Even Rats

In The Blogs:

It's Girl-On-Girl Friday at Cooter Punch.

Jared at 5 Acts has some good cover songs up on his site right now.

Chris has a couple more songs from Shout Out Out Out Out. We both posted on them yesterday and I am still listening to them nonstop. More awesome here.

c'mon dodge - you're telling me you've never played some Guitar Hero? "Even Rats" is one of the sweetest songs on there!

i'm not missing that concert. i'll be back in town for thanksgiving, so it'll work out perfectly.

Sadly, I haven't played Guitar Hero, but have seen it played and am awaiting an opportunity. Is it as awesome as it appears?

The Slip is like the only remotely decent band that claims to be from Boston. They're OK. Boston's music just biiiiiiiites. Aberdeen City is decent too, though

oh, it's a lot of fun. i'm not one for video games, but i enjoy myself everytime i bust out some crazy solo.

it's one of those games where you're thinking "i am so lame, this is so lame, i can't believe i'm playing this" the entire time you're at it.

but then you wind up staring at the screen for several hours, attempting to master "bark at the moon."

check it out - it's worthwhile

The Slip = great choice, great album. Friday Dec 1 they'll be playing a live concert on WXPN in Philly, xpn.org at Noon eastern as part of our weekly concert series with NPR. Shameless plug, I know, but quality music needs to be heard. - Bruce

All this attention on The Slip on indie blogs recently is amusing to me. They were a rising jamband about a decade ago, and have been sort of also-rans in that scene since. I have no idea what changed all that, other than Jim James saying outloud that he was a fan. How odd.

Oh, and I think they're from Providence rather than Boston. Although they may have relocated since I stopped paying attention. Anyway, good to see more success for them after being around so long.
