M. Ward - Post-War
Road trips are the best because I get to listen to all the CDs I haven't had time to keep up with. On this past weekend's roadie to Chicago, for the Pitchfork Festival, I was really looking forward to hearing M. Ward's Post-War. An incredible musician and guitarist, Matt Ward fully rewarded my anticipation. This album shot to peaks of my year's best list inside it's first few songs. I know you guys get sick of bloggers saying that (I get sick of it too!), but I am sure on this one. Come end of year, I can guarantee this album will still be there. It was just fantastic travelling music. Ward's voice is dusty, weary and weathered, but with a velvety touch, which is just perfect for every song he creates. Here in the heartland, we love our Americana and Ward brings it better than most.I was, of course, extremely excited when I found out Jim James of My Morning Jacket would be again joining Ward, as he did on Transistor Radio, on this album for a song. Actually, if you like My Morning Jacket's Golden and songs like that, you'll love this album. Furthermore, another fav and creator of arguably the best album so far of 2006, Neko Case joins Ward for a song as well.
Post-War will be released by Merge Records on August 22nd.

This guy was born to sing Daniel Johnston covers. He should do an entire album of DJ songs.
so looking foward to this one, i hope we have it in at kalx so i can do the review, sounds like more laid back good times from mr. ward
M Ward is not of this world.
His music is heavenly.
Post-War absolutely destroys my face. It is, without question, in my top four (or higher) of the year so far.
Amen on all accounts. All accounts meaning Post-War and Fox Confessor being some of the year's best Americana.
