Enjoy The Silence

Three great albums from Depeche Mode's catalog were recently remasted and re-released (June 6th) in Rhino Record's continuing efforts to honor great albums of the past and update them with new DVD materials and unreleased gems. In case you don't know, Depeche Mode is an electro-pop/new wave (new romantic) band from the town of Basildon, England, that got it's start around 1980. Each album was released as two-disc sets featuring the original albums on CD, plus 5.1 audio and enhanced stereo mixes, b-sides, and remixes on a bonus DVD. Each DVD also includes a short film about the album, featuring current interviews with band members. Deluxe packaging includes a booklet with lyrics, rare photos, and more.I got my hands on Violator, their top-selling CD from 1990. It contains two of my personal favorites, Personal Jesus and our cover track of the day, Enjoy The Silence. You can buy it at Rhino Records.

31 Talk back to yo' mama!:
Have I ever told you "thanks" for having a kick-ass blog?
No, I haven't. Well, now I will:
Thanks.
Being stuck at work on a Saturday (and missing the damn World Cup) has never sounded so good.
Thank you.
go cubbies!
failure's version of this song has always been one of my faves. thanks for all the amazing covers lately... yr blog rocks my socks. xo.
jajaja...the de saloon's version appears.
Are you reading my mind? Thanks for the fabulous covers. They've been so much fun.
wow, some of these are awesomely bad! and a few excellent ones.
thanks, and great blog. :)
I just saw Depeche Mode a month ago. possibly the best show I have been to.
How I adore this blog. Thank you so much!
Thanks for linking directly to the folder I asked you not to share...
It was a careless accident, i'm really sorry - I didn't even look at the link, just cut and paste! the link is changed! So sorry Aileen!
I'm new here, but I'm hooked. Thanks for the great music! Can anyone tell me if there is a way to search MOKB? Maybe I'm just missing it?
My question:
How long did it take to upload all these tracks to ezarchive??
Go Cubs! Even though the game is over.
Sweet. I worry that you have, perhaps, too much time on your hands, but really - that was sweet.
tremendous list. i'm only missing the richard x remix...
Hey (btw) love your blog one of my daily stops..
So this posting, I am a local Boston Musician and thought I would share my version\cover of this tune...
Here is a version of Enjoy the Silence I did a few years ago...

Whether they're related or not I have no cluse, but DJ Sasha and John Digweed have a very kick ass trance song called "Enjoy the Silence" ... it may be worth looking into.
Here's another EtS-cover, by Dutch punkband De Heideroosjes: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=4A7B9F4F0DF899E0
Are any of them actually any good? I'm not able to download them all.
I am absolutely amazed! I had no idea that there were so many covers of that old synthpop classic.
De Saloon cover is just great. Awsome track.
janita's soulful lounge version is the best cover by far.
you can check it out at: http://www.giantstep.net/releases/932
i'm heading out right now to city hall park to catch her live set.
The "Acoustic" version that you posted by DM is outstanding - I never knew it existed. Is that a snippet from an unplugged concert or something? I'd love to get my hands on more of their classics stripped down like that... can you tell me when to track them down?
Thanks,
Ryan

hi
there is a fun fun project mashup in France called DELPECH MODE, they mixed up the depeche mode songs with 70's french popstar Michel Delpech's lyrics.
So it is a really fun moment. Enjoy the Loir & Cher is perfect and the video clip so fun.

Sasha and Digweed are wrongly credited as remixers here. It should be instead Mike Koglin - The Silence (Matt Darey's Tekara remix). This feature on Sasha & John Digweed's Northern Exposure compilation (1998) but it's not their own production. :)
I think the mark of a great song is its ability to maintain its own identity regardless of the style or genre in which it's performed. Thanks for the great collection of covers that highlight the brilliance of the original!
depeche mode: massive in Europe, not well liked in Britain. It's odd. talk talk were another one.
On May 25 1985 8 of the US Billboard top 10 were by British artists. Duran were there in the guise of the Power Station. To get the whole list, go to
