Asobi Seksu - Citrus / Henry Rollins Contest

My friend DJ Never Forget sent me the new Asobi Seksu album, Citrus, and I am loving it. The Brooklyn-based band is fronted by Yuki Chikudate, a Japanese-American with a slender frame and long black hair. Yum. She is right on her band's namesake - Asobi Seksu or "Playful Sex" in Japanese - as that is just what she and her music are. She's not your prototypical high-pitched Japanese electro-rocker-punk-chick-lead and that's a really nice change of pace. Asobi Seksu's sound is fuzzy dream pop with dance inclinations. They remind me of the Silversun Pickups but with a shoegaze-stylings. She switches back and forth from English to Japanese at times and sometimes things like that get on my nerves, but it's a very cool thing here. Maybe because the smoothness and fluidity of her voice just sort of glosses me over, I just sort of fall in and lose track of what she's saying anyway, so it becomes less important.
DJ Never Forget says there are better tracks on the album than these, and I'm not saying he's wrong. Red Sea is his favorite, but I just keep listening to these two over and over.
Asobi Seksu - Thursday
Asobi Seksu - New Years
Also highly recommended tracks: "Mizu Asobi", "Red Sea" and "Pink Cloud Tracing Paper"
Henry Rollins Contest:

MOKB is a big-time supporter of Henry Rollins and all he does. I mean, we go way back to the Black Flag days - well even I was a little too young when Black Flag was the shit, but I discovered them in my early teenage years and was all about Henry's angst and intensity. I mean, the guy became their lead singer simply by jumping onstage at one of the original band's shows and singing a song with them. How badass is that? Henry is more relaxed these days and hosts The Henry Rollins Show on IFC (Independant Film Channel) TV. This week he talks to Perry Farrell and Deadboy & The Elephantmen will perform. It's on Saturdays at 10pm EST. Check your local listings. Damien Marley was on this past week and you can see his performance of Khaki Suit here.
Each hat is signed on the bill by Henry himself. I have one of each color to give away. In order to win, send me an email to dodge77(at)gmail(dot)com with Henry Rollins in the subject line. Be sure to opt-out if you do not want to receive emails from our contest sponsors.

7 Talk back to yo' mama!:
I just saw Asobi Seksu live at Joe's Pub (in NYC) on Thursday... they play an incredible set! If you're in the area and 21, they're playing Mercury Lounge at the end of the month.
And I have to agree with your song choices. Ever since the CD was released I have been unable to stop listening to both of those, especially "New Years" with its intense a capella bit right before the climax of the song.
Thanks for posting, these Asobi Seksu songs sound great!
Black Flag...reminds me of a sweet film I haven't seen in a while

if you dig the Damian Marley track - I've ripped the audio from it over here: http://culturebully.blogspot.com/2006/06/damian-jr-gong-marley-khaki-suit-live.html
Rollins rulz.
That Asobi Seksu will likely be the most played album for me this summer, that or the new Mojave 3. But goodness do I love Asobi Seksu.
