Ghostland Observatory
Many of the NYC bloggers have been singing the praises of Ghostland Observatory for almost a year now. I've been relatively indifferent since I listened to them back then...whatever the selection was, it wasn't to my liking. I heard this song the other day though and loved it.Ghostland Observatory - Piano Man (highly rec'd!)
They play a brand of electro-synth rock/punk that is so popular in NYC these days it seems...think of a much cooler Bravery with way more grit crossed with Freddie Mercury. They crept back into my brain down at SXSW as they were playing some showcases (even though I don't know if they were officially in SXSW?) and lots of the kids were mentioning them. I never checked their live show, but wish I would have now.
In The Blogs:
Garrison has his interview with The Grates up. It's really funny. I want Patience to be my otha baby's momma. She and MJ were trading antacid recommendations with each other at SXSW (I know! SEXY!), so maybe I have a chance. OK, probably not...although she did point to me during one of her songs...me and 6 other guys during the song. Dang.
Locals Only:
Great show tonight at The Big Car Gallery...Liz Janes & Half-Handed Cloud (both Asthmatic Kitty label) will be playing. Starts at 8pm and $5 gets you in the door. I have to miss as I am heading to St. Louis for a wedding...if you go, tell me how it is!
Liz Janes - Wonderkiller (highly rec'd!)

8 Talk back to yo' mama!:
Currents...
They're band I found out about via one of those music torrent sites. There really isn't much info available online about Currents aside from the following links...

Sweet your coming to the Lou, sucks that we don't have great music this weekend except for a sold-out Strokes show on Saturday. Probably because it's Cardinals/Cubs weekend in Chi-town, music doesn't exist those weekends around here!
I really like that Ghostland Observatory song too. My ears kind of perked up when it came on in my playlist.
Ive heard a lot abt this band and been emailed a lot abt this band but I really didnt hear the tarck until you posted it today. thats a jam right there...
I saw the show,
It was good. All the bands were really great. I saw Liz Janes and Create! and Half-Handed Cloud on Thursday in Muncie at Village Green Records. The guy from HHC is a really nice guy. Both of them toured with Sufjan and recorded with him too, so that's a plus.
Of course, Everything, NOW! was the shit.
Matt
I went to the venue for HHC and Liz Janes Monday night in Louisville, only to find out there was just one other person to watch the show. After talking with them for a few minutes, I left and told them I'd catch them in Indy.
Generally, the Indy show was good. John's authenticity was there as he watched other bands perform, mingling with the small crowd, and as he performed. Great set, with about half of the list coming from previous albums and half from "Halos and Lassos." I wasn't too impressed with the Liz Janes show, but I've never been a fan with her Create! project. They did pull off a few older tunes, and those were great--they had a great vibe together (and of course it's fun to watch a very pregnant woman rock out).
GHOSTLAND is playing in Boston, MA on April 19th... the show is at Great Scott which is a really neat little venue and tickets are STILL avaliable
so let's sell this baby out!!!!
