Thundereggs, Jets, Snakes & Beck...my kinda party.
New Bands: Thunderegg
Silly name and apparently the official state rock of Oregon, but Thunderegg is an east coast band with members in New York and Connecticut. Just listen to the first song and you'll buy in. Thunderegg's lyrics express the humor of real life situations, new-found love, bad baseball announcers and daily life in simple songs with sweet melodies. They have a nice mix of folk, pop, and heartfelt humor.
Thunderegg - Say We Did (highly rec'd!)
Thunderegg - Skeletons
Thunderegg - If I Went On A Diet (highly rec'd!)
Thunderegg - It's Not You, It's Not Me, It's Her
Thunderegg - Even As You Walk Away
Thunderegg - Tim McCarver Must Die
You can find loads more mp3s here. Thunderegg's MySpace.
Next, New York band Jets & Snakes was sent in by MOKB reader Chris. He writes, "You can't beat a hot chick with an accordion!" I second that notion, but unfortunately can't find any pictures of said hot chick - Jaquee Novak, so that's kind of dissappointing. Here is the band's bio though.
Jets and Snakes - Wrecking Ball (Savefile - follow link)
Here are some more demos. Jets & Snakes' MySpace.
New Music:
Beck's Guerolito is released today. The Mae Shi, who were posted on here at MOKB and are all kinds of good, remixed Que Onda Guero and it's here for your listening pleasure. This track is not on Guerolito.
Beck - Que Onda Guero (Mae Shi Remix)
You'll probably see this on some other blogs, but here is the write up that came with the remix:
So much of Beck's '90s output was a mythologizing of the 80s Los Angeles he grew up immersed in – lowriders, mariachi, turntables and microphones. Sure, it's patronizing at times – "Odelay" was his gringo approximation of "orale," as in "orale vato" – but for some, it's the perfect whiteboy synthesis of pre-Rodney King Riots Los Angeles.
However, the sound of the city has changed. With this remix, local L.A. surprise punks The Mae Shi have tried to capture the sound of a summer in Los Angeles in 2005 – the sound of Daddy Yankee selling out Staples Center, the sound of narcocorridos booming from the car next to you as you drive down Pico Blvd.
This year saw a new radio station take over the streets of Los Angeles, Latino 96.3, a bilingual station "blazing reggaeton and hip-hop." In the hot windows-down summer of 2005, the station was impossible to ignore, and its rise in public presence coincided with Daddy Yankee's newfound ubiquity (as well as his ability to sell out Staples Center).
Que Onda Guero (Team Shi 96.3 Latino Remix)" is The Mae Shi's attempt to capture the sound of 2005 in the same way Beck captured the sound of 1985.
New Features:
I got an email the other day describing this new feature. I may or may not use, you can decide. It's called "Play Tagger" from del.icio.us. So this is the first test, let's see how it works...
"Play Tagger allows you to easily play mp3 files directly on your website or blog. Simply include a tiny javascript, and your mp3 links will automatically become playable right on the page (uses flash). In addition, your visitors will have the opportunity to easily tag and post the mp3 link to del.icio.us. This script is extremely lightweight, as is the flash movie that plays on demand".

2 Talk back to yo' mama!:
I agree on the Thunderegg. I was just recommening them to a friend of mine the other day. I enjoy all 6 full albums I got off of their site. Great find.
