The Diggs & Festivus

I'm pretty sure I first learned of this band from Rachael, who has excellent musical tastes, so I naturally checked them out. The Diggs' sound merges mid-nineties guitar-driven midwestern indie rock with English dream pop and some emo. My best comparision is a Sonic Youth sound with more radio-friendly lyrics. Maybe a little Dashboard Confessional-ly at times, but generally with more of an edge.

They’re from Brooklyn and have been doing a bunch of well-received shows recently in NYC, and they just released their debut full length record, Commute.

Festivus
Happy Festivus my little monkeys! "A Festivus for the rest of us!"

An aluminum pole is generally used in lieu of a Christmas tree or other holiday decoration. Those attending participate in the "Airing of Grievances" which is an opportunity for all to vent their hostilities toward each other, and after a Festivus dinner, The Feats of Strength are performed. Traditionally, Festivus is not over until the head of the household is wrestled to the floor and "pinned."

I don't know much about 50 Foot Wave, but they are giving away a free e-EP for the holidays. Here is the write-up on them: 50 Foot Wave is propelled by the race-car engine of Kristin's guitar and her explosive, feral vocals. Bernard's bass, as always, is a muscle, undulating through Kristin's wall of sound. Ahlers drumming is ferocious and unbridled, at once supporting and keeping pace with Kristin's driving and relentless sound. The trio are tight and powerful, creating music that is precise, emotional and seemingly on the edge of control.
