Austin City Limits Music Festival Photo Recap - Day Three

Now, if you thought Day One and Day Two looked good. Day Three was by far one of the best shows I've been to. Two words: Kaiser Chiefs. BUT...let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Day started with a little bit of Eisley...very good, but I couldn't get close enough to get any good pictures...we arrived for the 2nd half of their set. After that, some food and merch we headed over to the Heineken Tent for M83, who for the 2nd time, didn't really impress me with his live performance.

I wanted to check out a local Austin band I had been hearing good things about, so I checked into Zykos...I was not disappointed, these guys were great...

It was then over to Doves who sounded great, but I wasn't close enough for great pics again. I really enjoyed what I was able to see of them though. It was then on to the performance of the entire weekend for me. The Kaiser Chiefs. Ricky Wilson gave all...he was awesome. He sweat out every last bit of energy before collapsing from the heat at the end of the set. I was 10 feet away and yelling, singing, bouncing and screaming the whole time. Ricky was hilarious and fought through the heat like a champ. He about passed out three different times.

When Ricky got back up, we screamed and yelled to let him know how much we appreciated him sticking it out. He was awesome. After that, it was Arcade Fire, who was good, but not as good as at Stubb's, so I left early for a great spot for the Decemberists. The Decemberists was outstanding, consisting mainly of songs from their back catalog, which made me very happy. The only song from Picaresque was We Both Go Down Together and the finale, The Mariner's Reenge Song. Chimbley Sweep. July, July and many many other oldie but goodies were in the set. I was stoked...Pre-show crowd filling in...

The show and sound checks...

Colin made us all kneel down during Chimbly Sweep...it was pretty cool...

Chris Funk of The Decemberists...

Petra Haden of The Decemberists... (uh oh...cleveland!) Sorry, I couldn't help myself...

It was then back to the Heiny Tent for The Black Keys...these guys really came into their own at this show. The crowd was enormous and going just ape-shite the whole time. Pics aren't so good...

We were toast after that and only attempted to catch a little of Coldplay...MJ and I had just seen them, so we didn't feel too bad about skipping out on most of the set. ACL was an absolute blast...I can't totally explain how much fun I had with Chris, Kevin, Mel, Annie, Jesse, MJ and all the other cool people I met. I even saw The Cobra Snake, which is pretty funny because I love his party pics.

Big thanks go out to Melissa who hooked us up with the Heiny braclets, you are the best!!! Equal thanks to Kevin and Annie for letting us crash/chip-in in/on your room this past weekend too!

Dodge,

Great coverage of the "Sweat/Dust Bowl 2005"! Absolutely amazing event in my mind. Your pictures, especially of Kaiser Chiefs are sweet... Ricky definitely gave it his all... can't believe he climbed onto the top of the rafters, then jumped around the whole stage, then ran down into the crowd and had them singing the chorus to "Oh My God"... yeah, brilliant performance!

Kasabian delivered an equally energetic set on Friday afternoon. Other performances I witnessed and thought were really good: The Frames, Oasis, Bloc Party, Oasis, Spoon, Jet, Fiery Furnaces, Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, ... there's so many... I have to look back at my notes/line-up/pictures...

As always great coverage of the event. I'm pretty jealous you had those Heineken passes!

Well, that does pretty much sum it all up. Day one was not as great as day three, can anything be? However, Theivery Corp and Mates of State were standouts.
I love the feet pic. My wife and I have one just like it. As hot as it was it was cooler than last year believe it or not! I saw three different people pass out from the heat on Sunday. One girl walked up to my friends, said I can't say anything except I only see white, then fell flat on her face in the dirt.
Hope to see you next year!

Thank you for the Petra shot- really!

P.S. M83 make great albums but I've also thought less of their live show. I'm trying to find their remix of a Bumblebeez 81 track I heard on a less than reputable DVD today.
