Abandoned Pools

Abandoned Pools debuted in 2001 and made some talk show performance appearances back in 2002 and toured with the likes of Remy Zero, Garbage, Lenny Kravitz, Billy Corgan and A Perfect Circle. I received a email from Universal Mowtown today hyping them again and their latest EP The Reverb. I wasn't really impressed with the song they sent me, The Catalyst, but the track that won them their initial fame isn't too bad, especially this acoustic version...
Abandoned Pools - The Remedy (Acoustic)
Abandoned Pools - The Remedy
*note: just so there is no confusion, this is not Jason Mraz who also has a song called The Remedy...the two are unrelated...

If you like them, you can find more audio here. They asked me for mine, but what are your thoughts? I'll send them back to Motown.

7 Talk back to yo' mama!:
That acoustic version kicks all ass! Great blog man!
This is not very good stuff. Listening to Remedy had me recoiling and convulsing from late 90s alt-rock shock. Catalyst is pretty bland too -- it's like they went to Interpol school. Drums have that punchy beat and tight compressed thing -- too familiar for my liking.
GREAT BLOG!
I love your blog but this stuff sucks. I got the same bland email from the universal motown intern and the same bland "alternative" song.
I think we've got to filter this stuff out and not link to it to maintain our credibility. I agree with d money and I won't be linking to this track
but with that said keep up the good work on all other fronts
well, what exactly is my "credibility" or your's for that matter?
listen, i agree, it's not so good...I basically say that...I think most people know, or should, that unless I say I like it, which I usually do, then I'm just putting it out there.
See, I put out Sufjan Stevens and don't really like him, I put out Jurassic 5 and a lot of people out there don't really like them, but I do. It's not about my credibility to me. It's about the music maaaan. No seriously, it is. I will put things out I know I like, I will put things out I know you might not, but see, as you can see by the first comment, someone DID like it.
It is not my job to decide and push what others should like, I put it out, if you like it great, if you don't great. I'm not a big Mercury Rev fan, but people are...I just put it out there, you decide.
I will say this though, I am very pleased that you and D Money wrote in to tell me that you didn't like it. Thanks, I actually really DO appreciate it.
However, I will say that I do generally consciously decide what to push out there, so in some degree I am a decision maker for others...I do know that. It's really just that the one thing that bothers me about the blogworld out here is that "too cool for school", holier than though attitude that some bloggers take about the music they post...it's no MY music, I have no ownership stake in it, what do I have to be self-righteous about? I don't. So I'm not always going to rule out posting about a band that I deem of lower quality than what I generally listen...most of the time, but not always. ANYWAY, point well received and I might consider being more discernable in the future if that is what the audience is demanding.
I'm guessing that first guy works at Universal...they've done it before with Secret Machines (anonymous fantastic comments!)
meanwhile Sufjan, mercury rev and Jurassic 5 are intrinsically and objectivly better than abandoned pools. whether you like them or not I'm guessing you respect what they're trying to do at least
reminds me of my college roommate - total asshole but I liked him and respected him for being so consistently assholish
anyway again keep up the good work!
